The Starlight Theatre Company Booster Club (STCBC) issues scholarships to senior STC students who have shown remarkable dedication and growth as members of the Starlight Theatre Company. The scholarship is intended to support their future endeavors after graduation from James Bowie High School. It is a monetary award issued by check directly to the scholarship recipient on the evening of the STARS awards celebration in May. 

 

Students are eligible for the STCBC scholarship if:

  • The senior, their parents, or their guardian joined the Starlight Theatre Company Booster Club on or before October 8, 2025. 
  • The student is an active member of the Starlight Theatre Company.

Students who meet the above eligibility requirements may submit a scholarship application, which includes a 300 - 500 word essay, their transcript, and two checked acknowledgments, on or before the specified deadline. (Transcripts can be obtained through Naviance.)

 

Scholarship applications are reviewed and scored by the STCBC Scholarship Committee. Up to 100 points are awarded in the following five categories: 

  1. STC Hours as documented on the scholarship application and verified by a Theatre Director. Eligible hours are those accrued for all grading periods of the freshman, sophomore, and junior years, and from the first through the third nine-week grading periods of the senior year. (Maximum points: 35)

  2. Grade Point Average as documented on the applicant’s transcript. (Maximum points: 5)

  3. Years as a member of the STC & Shows Participated in as documented on the scholarship application. (Maximum points: 14 = 1 pt per year, + .5 pt for each show-block participated in)

  4. Essay as scored blind by an impartial panel using this rubric (Maximum points: 30)

  5. Dirctors' Evaluation (Maximum points: 15 for Leadership/Mentorship, Contribution/Effort, and Merit)

 

The Scholarship Applicant must receive a composite score of 70 points or greater in the five categories to be eligible for a scholarship.  The top 7 applicants will be awarded scholarships in the following amounts.

  • 2 Scholarships of $1000 each
  • 2 Scholarships of $750 each
  • 3 Scholarships of $500
  • For a total of $5000*

*The monetary scholarship amounts awarded may vary from year to year as determined by the STCBC budget and the Starlight Theatre Scholarship Committee.


Timeline for the 2025-2026 STCBC Scholarship Applications:

 

March 14, 2026: Scholarship applications available online on the booster website, www.stcboosters.com.

 

April 12, 2026 by 11:59pm: Deadline for online submission of complete scholarship applications, essays and transcripts.

 

Scholarships are awarded at the Starlight Theatre Company STARS awards event in May.








Total number of hours earned in STC from freshman to senior year through the third nine weeks. Includes parent hours. Will be verified by an STC Director.

Write an essay using ONE of the prompts listed below. The essay must be typed and should be approximately 300 - 500 words. It can be single or double-spaced and in a 12-point font. Upload your finished essay as a .pdf file. 

 

1. Describe an obstacle or challenge in your life and how you overcame it in order to get where you are today. (This could be an event related to theatre or outside of theatre.) How did it affect your life, values, or future goals?

 

2. How do you think your experience in theatre has influenced your goals and aspirations for the future? How will what you’ve learned or the skills you’ve developed help you in your future endeavors, whether they are theater-related or not?
 

3. Describe how an event or person influenced your decision to go into theatre and how that decision has impacted your life .
